Gov. Neil Abercrombie signed same-sex civil unions into law Wednesday, granting gay and lesbian couples the same state rights as married partners. It will start January 1st 2012, becoming the 7th State to approve it. Arguments over civil unions and gay marriage have long divided the state, which nearly became the first in the nation to legalize gay marriage in 1993 because of a state Supreme Court ruling.

Budget Fights
Protests by public union members have now spread beyond the state of Wisconsin , to Indiana ,and Ohio. 14 Democratic party state senators in WI, are still in hiding out of the state and calls by GOP members for them to come back. This is after plans to for states who are making tough budget decisions many see as an assault to unions. A gallop poll shows 61% of Americans don't want collective bargaining rights removed or restricted.
